ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR

September 11, 2009

Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens host the Peak District’s most prestigious celebration of food, arts and crafts on Saturday and Sunday, October 17 and 18.

Running since 2002, the Great Peak District Fair boasts food and craft demonstrations including cheese, chocolate, pottery and jewellery making. And the 2009 fair will showcase more than 90 exhibitors selling exclusive items such as paintings, photographs, hats, bags, jewellery and even rag dolls.

Peak District Products, Peak District Food and the High Peak Artist and Craft Workers’ Association will all be exhibiting their work while High Peak felt maker Linda Moss will show off the designer hats, bags and quirky felt jewellery fashioned from the wool of her own sheep. Other highlights will include hand-painted and comical wildlife items by Elizabeth Hague.

New to the fair this year is the Buxton Beer Festival and Real Ale Trail to be opened by BBC Northwest celebrity Colin Sykes. The festival will promote a string of local micro breweries.

The fair will have lots to occupy youngsters, including a face painter, outdoor climbing wall, brass bands, miniature train ride and adventure playground. The Pavilion Café has a family friendly area with baby station, bottle warmer, microwave oven, mini play area and full children’s menu.

Said Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration: “Supporting the event means you are supporting the local economy and helping cultivate the next generation of the Peak District’s food, arts and crafts specialists”.

With disabled access plus parking for up to 270 cars and coaches, the Pavilion Gardens guarantees an enjoyable day out for everyone. The fair is open from 10am to 4pm both days with free admission.
