ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR!
September 14, 2010
Buxton's award-winning Pavilion Gardens are set to showcase the very best in locally-produced food, drink, art and crafts.
The 23-acre beauty spot will be a hive of activity on Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17 when High Peak Borough Council stages its annual Great Peak District Fair.
Running from 10am to 5pm with free admission, the eagerly-anticipated event will feature a Buxton Beer Festival that invites visitors to sample the finest local cask ales.
A feast of family fun will include face painting, brass bands and a chance to scale a climbing wall supplied by Upper Limits, from Longnor.
With thoughts turning to Christmas, guests will be able to snap up high-quality gifts in the form of food, plants, art, jewellery and crafts presented by more than 90 exhibitors from across the Peak District.
What is more, members of Peak District Products, Peak District Food and High Peak Artist and Craft Workers' Association will be staging art, craft and food demonstrations on both days.
One of the most eagerly-anticipated events in the High Peak calendar, the fair will be opened by Deputy Mayor Stewart Young, Deputy Mayoress Ann Young and Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration.
Councillor Kemp said: "I never cease to be amazed by the popularity of the fair, which owes its success to the quantity and quality of food, drink, art and crafts produced in the High Peak and across the Peak District.
"The event provides an ideal opportunity to buy exquisite, unique gifts - and to support the local economy. The fair is also great news for the environment as the sale of locally-sourced goods helps reduce the distance that products have to travel to market", he pointed out.
With extensive disabled access plus coach parking and space for up to 270 cars, the Pavilion Gardens are as always the ideal events destination for an enjoyable day out, and never more so than when the Great Peak District Fair is in town.
In July, for the sixth year running, the Pavilion Gardens won the coveted Green Flag Award for excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standards of safety and security.
