Quality and Variety at Artists and Designers Fair

Quality work ranging from fine art to furniture and stained glass to soft furnishings are on display at the Artists and Designers Fair at Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens.

About 50 exhibitors, from Derbyshire, Cheshire, Yorkshire and as far afield as Shropshire and Herefordshire, feature items – including ceramics, designer clothes, jewellery, photography, pottery, wood carvings and woodturning – at these fairs, staged monthly, on weekends. See the Fairs and Events Calendar for details.

Visitors were able to enjoy free admission, between 10am and 4.30pm, and to see work by two new exhibitors – Sheffield-based artist Steve Elliott and creative clock makers Kerry Grant and Zoe Marsh of Milford, Belper, who run the business ‘Tilly Flop’ – at the September 2007 fair.

Light, colour and atmosphere are a key feature of Steve’s landscapes and semi-abstract works, many of which are inspired by the open spaces and scenery of the Peak District.

Tilly Flop’s innovative approach to design and use of materials should appeal to anyone looking for a timepiece with a difference, plus co-ordinating product ranges for children’s rooms.

“Over the past few years, our regular Artists and Designers Fairs have gained a well-deserved reputation for showcasing the very best of art, craft and design from both the local area and beyond,” said Councillor Tony Kemp, High Peak Borough Council’s Executive Member for Economic Regeneration.

“The Fairs always offer excellent quality and choice to both local people and visitors to the High Peak, and also play a key role in backing local and regional businesses and helping to keep the area’s economy buoyant. Not only that, they provide the ideal opportunity to take a relaxing break in the newly refurbished Art Café.”

Bookings are also being taken for the Pavilion Gardens’ first-ever in-house Craft Fair, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, November 10 and 11. Anyone interested in exhibiting is invited to contact organiser Chris Marrison on 01298 23114.
