ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR!

October 22, 2010

Around 10,000 pleasure seekers descended on Buxton’s historic Pavilion Gardens to enjoy the very best in locally-produced food, arts and crafts.

Organised by High Peak Borough Council, the ninth annual Great Peak District Fair saw 95 exhibitors showcasing their wares inside the Grade II listed building on Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17.

Opened by Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Stewart and Ann Young, the fair was staged alongside the second Buxton Beer Festival. The beer tent on the promenade sold an incredible 769 pints over the two days, a five per cent increase on last year.

With live and recorded Irish music playing throughout the weekend, customers were able to sample a range of 15 real cask ales, all brewed in or near the Peak District. The competition for the most popular ale produced two winners: Impy Dark, from Brampton Brewery; and Jaipur, from Thornbridge Brewery.

High Peak Radio broadcast live from the event on the Saturday morning, interviewing stallholders plus customers from far and wide.

Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration, paid tribute to staff and management at Pavilion Gardens: “This is only the third time that the fair has been organised solely by our in-house team and, once again, they did a fantastic job.

“The fair is a hugely popular event, and it is one of the many ways in which we increase visitor spend in the High Peak to support the local economy”, he explained.
