Heath and Heaven at the Conservatory

September 18, 2008

The Pavilion Gardens Conservatory is exhibiting Heath and Heaven - an aerial journey of the whole of the Peak District National Park, created in one day - to celebrate its re-opening and refurbishment.

Heath and Heaven comprises of 350 photographs across 24 panels. It was photographed from a helicopter, digitally composed, written, printed and framed at the Living Art premises, in Hathersage, within 24 hours. The graphic design, words and print are by Si Homfray, and the photography is by John Beatty.

The viewer is taken on a unique and breathtaking journey across the National Park. From the northern most aspect of the Peak District, Black Hill and Laddow Rocks across moorland, village, valley, hilltop and landmark down to the Roaches and Staffordshire.

The work sets out to convey calm and reflection and how exciting and fulfilling it can be to immerse ourselves in such a working, rural environment.

Tony Kemp, Executive Councillor for Regeneration, said: "The Heath and Heaven installation captures the detail and spirit of the Peak District National Park. It is an additional attraction for the Pavilion Gardens that reminds residents and visitors alike of the true beauty of this remarkable landscape. Why not pay a visit to the Conservatory and enjoy it for yourselves?"

Heath and Heaven can be viewed at the Conservatory which is open daily from 9.30 am to 5 pm. Admission is free.
